In 2020, we met a couple who, like many others during COVID, started searching for a home as part of their retirement plans. After walking through several neighborhoods, they realized nothing available truly fit what they wanted for the next chapter, so they decided to build. What mattered just as much as the home itself was finding a builder they could rely on. As they described, their goal was “to have a builder that would take care of us through the process,” and that is what led them to Spartan.

It was very structured, there were no surprises as to what we were going to be getting as an end product,” and said that after every meeting, “we had a pretty clear direction as to how we were going to move forward and that’s what we wanted.”
Insights on the Build Process
Every homeowner has features that matter most. For this family, priorities included a flexible mudroom, screened-in porch, and plenty of open living space for lake views. They wanted a main-level master, and Spartan made sure each of those was non-negotiable and included. The clients appreciated that “with this model we can see it from every room in the house” and confirmed that all their must-haves were addressed.
As with any move, it took some time for their new house to really feel like home. Over the first year, that feeling grew and now, they say, it is definitely home. One moment that stands out was choosing the fireplace color; stepping out of their comfort zone paid off, and seeing the finished fireplace with the mantel installed was a highlight.
Practical benefits showed up right away too. Their first electric bill was about half of what it had been in their much smaller rental, and the family quickly found themselves spending more time outside, playing, and welcoming friends thanks to the lake lifestyle.
Throughout the build, we remained available for questions and transparent about decisions and progress. This helped create “clarity through the build,” something the couple saw as both a promise and a fact. After a year, they reported no major issues, just minor touch-ups here and there, and said they valued both our honesty and consistency.
